🌐 Why IP Cameras Are Now the Standard

There are two main types of CCTV systems:

  • ✅ IP Cameras – Use Cat5 or Cat6 network cable. They offer high resolution, better remote access, and easier integration with smart systems.
  • ⚠️ Analogue HD (TVI, CVI, AHD) – Now considered legacy technology, analogue systems are being phased out industry-wide. We no longer recommend these for new installs.

💡 Still using an older coax system? We can help upgrade you to a future-proof IP setup, or temporarily extend life with compatible parts.

🧰 Get the Cabling Right

Over half of the problems we fix from other installers are caused by poor-quality cabling. Always choose high-grade Cat5/6 cable to avoid signal loss and premature failure. Done right, your system will last years — not months.

Higher resolution means sharper footage, but also:

  • 🗃️ More storage required
  • 📶 Slower remote streaming

💡 To optimise storage and performance, lower the frame rate to 12-15fps and enable H.265 compression.

Most systems offer motion detection. We go further:

  • We enable 24/7 recording
  • We use AI for human detection.
  • AI Motion is used to mark important footage

This method ensures you never miss a moment — less false triggers.

🎤 Audio Options

Many of our IP cameras include:

  • A built-in microphone (basic audio)
  • Or IO audio ports for connecting high-sensitivity microphones

Need better sound? Go IO, although IO is significantly more difficult to set up as it requires several other components.

🔊 Two-Way Talk Capability

Many cameras advertise two-way talk, but it’s important to know what to expect.

📌 Most built-in speakers are the size of your fingernail, meaning the sound output is often too weak for real-world use — especially outdoors or in noisy areas.

💡 If two-way communication is important to you, consider where the camera will be placed and how close the listener needs to be. Some users find it useful at front doors, while others may prefer a more robust setup with dedicated intercoms.

🔭 Lens Choices

Most of our cameras have 2.8mm wide-angle lenses, ideal for general coverage.
Want a narrower field of view? Ask about 3.6mm or 6mm options, or a varifocal or Motorised varifocal.

  • All our cameras can run on 12V DC
  • IP systems support PoE (Power over Ethernet) — only one cable needed!

No PoE on your recorder? No problem — we offer switches and injectors.
